The Greene County Fair continues this week after a weekend start. The Greene County Fair is the first in Central Illinois to kick off the 2010 season. Secretary of Greene County Agricultural Fair told the Associated Press that the fair dates are at the end of the fiscal year for the fair and that makes it easier to budget. This year the Greene County Fair is hosting the Hot Farm Association tractor pull to run with the county tractro pull on Thursday night. They are also bring back sand volleyball. On Wednesday the Sangamon County Fair will kick off. Sangamon County makes $500,000 annually according to Steve Walter, President of Sangamon County Fair. Walter says that the state typically has $65,000 for the fair from the state and this year there is none. That shouldn't change anything for events at this year's fair. The Sangamon County Fair starts Wednesday and the Morgan County Fair Starts July 6th.
A Jacksonville resident has lost their dog on the east side of town Thursday. Two-year-old, yellow lab mix Cambria belongs to a little girl who would really like to find her dog. The dog has no collar but she does have a chip. If you have found the dog please call 217-883-1122.
AP-Ameren says with summer approaching, Ameren Illinois is offering tips for customers to spend less on electric and still stay cool. The utility says customers usually spend more during the summer months with the operation of air conditioners. Ameren suggest customers turn their thermostats up and save by 3 percent for every degree they increase temperature. They also urge customers to clean or replace air filters in the unit and turn the air off on a coole night.
An area resident is need of your help to locate their missing puppy. There three month old Chiawawa has ran off. The owners of the dog live on West Douglas in Jacksonville and they say they've only had the puppy for a couple of days. The pup is mainly black with some gray hair on his head. The puppy has been scene several times in the Douglas Street Area but they have not been able to catch him. If you catch the puppy please call 217-473-0626.
Money is still available to help low-income families with utility payments. Director of MCS Services, Dan Little says there is still money available to help out people in the area. MCS received slightly more than $2million in Low-Income Home Energy-Assistance Program. For more information contact MCS at 243-9404. Deadline is June 30.
The music lineup for this year's 2010 Illinois State Fair will include a variety of rock, country, and Christian music, as well as a performance by the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and an appearance by Food Network home and style expert Sandra Lee, who hosts the show "Semi-Homemade Cooking." This year featured artists will include country band Lady Antebellum, rock act Shinedown, pop star Selena Gomez and rock icons Cheap Trick and yes Blondie.
The 2010 Sangamon County Fair has announced their line-up. Wed. June 16th Bomshell with Adam James will be on stage, the 17th it will be Jake Owen with David Nail, the 18th Cross Canadian Ragweed with Randy Houser, and on the 19th taking the stage will be Rodney Atkins with Chris Young. Enjoy the demolition Derby Sunday afternoon on the 20 th.
The South Jacksonville Celebration Committee is planing a pre-event to the centennial celebration of the village in 2011. The 2010 event will serve as a fundraiser for this Centennial Celebration. On Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 there will be a Concert in the Cornfield, south of the village, west of the Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Inn. The headliner for this event will be Jason Michael Carroll with Lost Trailers opening the show.
